In the summer months, the spirits of Edinburgh become more restless than ever. Some of the Old Town’s ghostly denizens are even known to venture out during the hours of daylight or twilight (they don’t want to get too tanned). The closes and courtyards of the Royal Mile are home to an eclectic collection of departed souls.
Your ghostly guide is Alexander Clapperton (deceased), who was an Edinburgh Cemetery Director during the 1840s. Mr Clapperton will take you on a light-hearted journey through Edinburgh's dark past, telling tales of tortures, plague, witchcraft and invasion as he leads you through the Old Town's atmospheric closes and courtyards. En route, there will be a demonstration of several authentic torture devices whilst "jumper-ooters" provide guaranteed ghastly appearances in the form of terrifying witches, fearsome highlanders and screaming mad monks to name but a few!
With your tour, you'll also receive a copy of the bestselling 'Witchery Tales' book which is essential bedtime reading and an ideal way to delve further into Edinburgh's darker history.
