Sviyazhsk, the historical and cultural pearl of the Republic of Tatarstan, is located 70 km away from Kazan.
Today the place where the ancient fortress used to be is surrounded by the waters of the Volga. In the past, the fortress served as a military outpost in the Volga region and a place for preparing troops to storm the impregnable fortress of Kazan. Over time, as its importance as a military facility decreased, Sviyazhsk became the spiritual center of the Middle Volga region.
This sightseeing tour of Sviyazhsk includes unique historical monuments: the Cathedral of joy for all the mourners, one of the oldest wooden churches in Russia: Holy Trinity Church, the current assumption monastery with an architectural ensemble of 16-17 centuries, the stable yard and workshops.
