The Château de Flaugergues was one of Montpellier's first "Folies", leisure residences of 18th century Languedocian aristocracy. Acquired and transformed by Etienne de Flaugergues in 1696, the castle still remains a family home for The Colbert family, descendants of Etienne de Flaugergues and Jean-Baptiste Colbert (minister of Louis XVI) still live in the château as their principal residence. They happily host the tours, and other cultural events like movie screenings under the stars! This unique location is rich with local heritage, botany, wine making, and gastronomy - before or after your tour, enjoy a delicious meal at the Folia restaurant on the castle's grounds.
The Flaugergues gardens have developed over time to cover 4 hectares (40000 sq. meter) of land. The French-style gardens, the botanic park, and the olive paths, will reveal their secrets hidden within. They are a model of space layout and contain a vast variety of plants from many countries. Each step leads to a different scenery and garden style: classical, romantic, Italian, Mediterranean... Stroll around the collection of citrus trees, bamboos and palms, a masterly path and the charming orangery. You can also see the vineyard and the permaculture farm, and a stop by the cellar to taste the wines of the vineyard is - of course - also included in the visit !
