Dedicated to wine and landscapes lovers, this tour takes you to the heart of the medieval age: Siena and its Piazza del Campo where the Palio is held. Then, you will head to San Gimignano, the town with powerful towers and famous for its Vernaccia white wine.
We will start from the center of Florence in a luxury van, crossing the astonishing countryside of Chianti, where the famous wine and extra virgin olive oil come from. Rolling hills, ancient hamlets, castles and vineyards will accompany your pleasant journey to Siena, the pearl of the Tuscan countryside, still rich in history which shows what life was really like in the middle ages.
This tour will allow you to discover the town that had been fighting against Florence for centuries: Palio. This is where the most ancient road horse race in the world continues on in tradition, and is also the hometown to many artists such as Simone Martini, Ambrogio, Pietro Lorenzetti and more.
You will get to walk along the main road which coincides with 'The Francigena’s route', the one that pilgrims used for thousands of years to take a rest whilst on their way to Rome. Soon after you will reach the magnificent Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful squares in the world, where you will enjoy a delicious Tuscan lunch. After some free time to eat and to do some shopping if you wish, we will get back on the road to head to the marvelous San Gimignano. Whilst walking along its narrow stone-walled roads surrounded by astonishing powerful towers, it will feel as if you have been catapulted back to the middle ages.
San Gimignano is also the place where the excellent white wine Vernaccia is produced and ages as a top red wine; you can taste it in front of a breathtaking view of the Tuscan countryside! Before leaving you will also have the chance of tasting the gelato which won the prestigious prize on the Ice Cream World Championship!
