Travel back in time to the days when Stockholm was what's referred to today as “The Old Town.” Merchants selling goods from their shops or on squares, horse hooves clanking on the cobbled streets and the shouting of “Look up!” as the toilet contents came flying out the window (at least they warned you!). Stockholm’s Gamla stan, or the Old Town as it’s said in English, is filled, even today, with traces from medieval times and the guide will give you an exclusive viewing of it all. On this tour, you’ll trace the footsteps of the original location of the city while hearing exciting stories of this postcard-perfect area of the city.
At Stockholm’s Royal Palace learn about the Swedish royal family and the former gym owner who became a prince. Around the corner awaits the main square, Stortorget, where tales of horrible (and bloody) times will be unveiled. Meandering your way from alleyway to square, you’ll pass the narrowest alley in Stockholm, the most famous statues and even taste some delicious hand-made candy (yum!).
Before you finish the tour, you’ll visit a second island, Riddarholmen (The Island of Nobility) where noble palaces and one of the oldest buildings in Stockholm, the Riddarholmen Church, surround the square dedicated to the founder of the city. The island of Riddarholmen is one of the favorites offering an impeccable view of Stockholm’s lakeside waterfront.
