From the elegance of Trieste to grace of Lipizzaner horses, this tour is full of old-world charm. First up is Trieste, whose Habsburg palaces mark it out from other Italian cities. You'll then return to Slovenia to attend an exhibition of horsemanship at the famed Lipica Stud Farm.
Trieste is where the Latin, Germanic and Slavic worlds met and merged. A port city of surprising grandeur thanks to centuries of Habsburg rule. It was in this cosmopolitan hub that James Joyce penned some of his top works. Admire the scale of the Piazza Unità d'Italia, wander around the narrow alleys of the old town and head to the Grande Canal, lined by palaces and churches. And make sure to visit a café – Trieste is the European capital of coffee.
Then, it's on to the Lipica Stud Farm in the afternoon for a show. Watch these majestic creatures as they flawlessly move in tandem with their rider. The stud was founded by Archduke Charles II in the 16th century and you'll also learn all about Lipizzaner horses during the visit.
