Your tour will start with a pick-up from your hotel by a local guide who will accompany you to Kolomenskoye. You will begin with a short walk in Kolomenskoye toward Ascension Church, built back in 1532 to commemorate the birth of Ivan the Terrible. Interestingly, the Ascension Church was constructed out of stone (uncommon for Russia) and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
The Kolomenskoye Estate Tour will continue with a walk through the park. Feel as if you were in a fairy tale. Eventually, you will arrive at Wooden Palace, which many foreign guests in the 17th and 18th century referred to as the "eighth wonder of the world". This was the favorite residence of such notable figures in Russian history as Tsar Alexei I, Elizabeth and Peter the Great. The palace was originally built in the 17th century and was reconstructed to its present form in 2008 to 2010. Your tour guide will take you through the palace which has now been turned into a museum. As you wander through the 24 rooms, you will see the way the Tsar and his family lived and enjoyed life. You will visit the restored dining room of Alexei I, where he entertained his guests and served them the most exquisite food the 17th century had to offer. As dining was an important part of life for the Tsar family, the restorers paid special attention to every detail of the interior decor and the food servings.
At the end of the Kolomenskoye Estate Tour, your guide will be happy to recommend you a place to eat or to go shopping for souvenirs. You can decide whether you would like to go back to your hotel or continue strolling through the park.
