Spend a day exploring Assisi, an amazing Medival city filled with the memory of Saint Francis and Giotto: in the course of the experience you'll get to discover the spectacular Basilica along with its beautiful hills, its art, and its laid back way of life.
You'll start your day by being picked up from your accommodation; you'll then head directly to Assisi and, once you've arrived, you'll enjoy strolling around the narrow streets of the ancient town to reach the Church of Santa Chiara. On the way to Piazza del Commune (the Town Hall Square), you'll pass the Oratorio, the birthplace of St. Francis, with the remarkable Augustan Temple of Minerva.
The main highlight of your visit is, without doubt, the Basilica of Saint Francis in the Crypt of which the tomb of the Saint is contained and that has become the end destination of pilgrims coming from all over the globe. The dark vaulted Lower Church has been frescoed by artists as Giotto, Cimabue, and Simone Martini. The walls of the upper Church are decorated mostly by Giotto with the Scenes of the Old and the New Testament.
At the end of your experience, your guide will accompany you to the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, where Francis prayed and died, before boarding once again your vehicle and heading back to Rome.
