Kick-off your tour with a pick-up from your hotel to drive to the wonderful, and still relatively unknown place in the heart of Saudi Arabia, Al Wahbah Crater. Also known as Maqla Ṭamiyyah, it's a volcanic crater 350 km away from Jeddah, on the western edge of the Harrat Kishb basalt plateau in the Hejazi region of Saudi Arabia. For a long time was it believed that Al Wahbah Crater was created by an ancient meteor strike, but geologists have concluded that it was caused by an underground eruption when a flow of magma hit an underwater source of water.
The crater is 2km in diameter and has great surrounding topography and gorgeous views which also doubles as a great hiking trail as well. You can hike down to the crater, which takes about 30mins to get down and about 45 mins to get back up. If you're not into hiking, you can relax in this quiet atmosphere and enjoy the sunset. After seeing one of the best sunsets in your life, you will go back to you to your hotel, if you have time and want to add more to your itinerary – just let the local operator know what you are interested in and they will arrange it for you.
