Things to do in Valkenburg

Located in the southern tip of the Netherlands, Valkenburg is a must-see city when exploring the Limburg province. Hop on a train from Maastricht to arrive in Valkenburg Station, one of the oldest stations in the Netherlands, in only eleven minutes. This historic town was once a part of the Roman Empire attracting tourists to see its ruins and caves.

Learn about south Limburg art and history at the Museum Valkenburg and visit Saint Nicolas church to admire its Gothic architecture. Walk through one of the two remaining city gates, ‘Berkelpoort’ and ascend to the Valkenburg Castle ruins dating back to the 11th century. Then, explore the Roman-built underground quarry containing charcoal drawings and marl sculptures.
