Lower Austria is known as the cradle of Austrian viticulture, so come and explore the beautiful forests and vineyards of its Thermal Region, just south of Vienna. Home to beautiful spa villages, discover the region's indigenous wines, varieties that even the most experienced wine drinkers will not have sampled before!
Start your private adventure at Vienna's 'Wien Mitte' railway station to meet your guide and board the train: in summer to the lovely spa town of Baden, once a favorite country retreat of Beethoven; and in winter directly into the heart of wine country!
The summer itinerary (April-October) includes a walk through Baden's“Biedermeier” village center and its gorgeous parks before entering the Vienna woods. You'll then hike to a beautifully expansive viewpoint overlooking the canopy, vineyards, and mountains, before strolling across the vineyards, passing lush green vine after vine as we reach the historic wine village of Gumpoldskirchen for lunch.
In Winter (November-March), instead of the hike, in the morning you'll visit one of Austria's oldest wine institutions to discover how the monastic orders are responsible for the proliferation of both Burgundian and indigenous varietals unique to the area.
After lunch, the highlight of the day in both winter and summer is a wonderfully intimate wine tasting with one of the region's finest producers, where you'll enter the magic world of viticulture and learn more about wine-making in Austria from those who actually do it.
